The purpose of these Procedure Manuals is to equip nurses who have undergone specialized training in their respective practice as well as to develop uniformity in the discharge of their professional duties. The manuals draw together up‐to‐date procedures and practices, providing an essential resource of current knowledge with which specialized nurses can critically analyze the judgements they exercise in a variety of clinical settings in a consistent format.

The Post Basic Procedure Manuals is the first of its kind developed by the Council in Ghana. One huge strength of these manuals is the rich contributions from specialized nursing practitioners who are active in clinical practice and teaching. The procedures are drawn from a breadth of resources including research findings, national and professional guidelines, and policies, Health Professions Regulatory Bodies Act 2013 (Act 857), International Council of Nurses, Specialized Nursing Associations, among others.

Therefore, the constant updating of these manuals is important giving the ever-growing, accessibility of clinical information to all those with vested interests in healthcare. It is the expectation of the Council that, all users of these manuals, will contribute towards knowledge development and provide evidence based information for subsequent review.

These Manuals are arranged according to the accredited post–basic nursing procedures which are run by the Council. These are:

  1. Critical Care Nursing
  2. Peri-Operative Nursing
  3. Ophthalmic Nursing
  4. Ear, Nose and Throat Nursing
  5. Emergency Nursing
  6. Nurse Practitionership
  7. Paediatric Nursing
  8. Public Health Nursing

Keeping an up-to-date specialized nursing manuals also involve embracing new technologies, and as such, the manuals' online version is made available on the N&MC Mobile App and website for ease of reference and increase accessibility.
